Week 5

In Chapter 3 of Kaufman’s book, one idea raised by the author inspired me a lot: when it comes to culture significance, even the significance of building, we should not just focus on the art of architectural and thus ignore the significance of place and community, like his words: “historical awareness can also spread out from the communities in which they are situated”.

Also, I feel a little confused by one point rooted in his book: it seems the author favored the method that using historic resources to sustain economic development, for example, for the “Hispanic Heritage and the Recovery Project”, the author just listed some economical methods, such as pressing, stocking. It is useful and necessary to take economical methods to support our culture preservation, but how should we do to prevent the problem brought by the development of economy?
